The Charge AL has the same blade combination as the Wave but with smooth 6061-T6 aluminum handles with a black Type III hard anodized coating. As with the other Charge models, the AL main knife is made of 154CM Steel for a blade which stays sharp for longer.

Leatherman Charge AL Review, 10.11.2011
Reviewer: Markku Eerola , Naerum
Leatherman Charge AL: I bought this tool to help me in my work as a computer repairman. My original plan was to get pliers small enough to carry in ones pocket. Small pliers are uncomfortable to use, however, as the ends of the handles tend to bite painfully into ones palm. This is why I turned my eyes towards the Leatherman classic range. Not only does one get full size needle nose pliers which fold into compact size, but also plenty of other tools that come very handy when working with computers. My choice landed on Charge AL because the aluminium handles felt slightly more comfortable than those of Wave or Charge TTI when squeezing hard with the pliers. Charge AL comes with 8 double ended bit drivers and one small bit driver to tackle different types of screws. One can purchase 21 more in case those are not enough. My Charge AL came with a leather pouch which had an additional pocket for storing the extra bit drivers. Pros: Comfortable handles. Extra bit drivers increase usefulness when working on computers. Excellent knife blades. Knives accessible without opening pliers. Very good international warranty. Cons: Scissors tend to jam closed because of the design of the return spring. A wire crimper would have been a nice addition. Not legal in all EU countries due to locking and one hand operable knife blades. Summary : Best single tool I have ever used.
